I am also interested in the upcoming functional programming movement. What I can say from the discussions and talk is that there is quite a high focus on functional API design these days, backed with the monad theory. It also concerns future Java core APIs and libraries. So, we will no more need Scala to have clean and (almost) pure functional constructs. :)
